SPEEDO, the number one swimwear and accessories brand, originated in Sydney in the 1920s from MacRae Knitting Mills, an underwear company. The name SPEEDO itself was born in 1928, when the company created a revolutionary swimsuit, the "Racerback". Made of silk, the "Racerback" took the swimming world by storm and was adopted by leading swimmers such as world champion Arnie Borg. In 1957, SPEEDO took advantage of the emergence of a new and unusual fabric and created the first ever nylon sports swimsuit. The world had never seen a swimsuit that was so suitable for its intended purpose and allowed for such speed. But SPEEDO was not going to rest on its laurels and continued to search for new products that could further increase the speed of swimmers. Any technical innovation that contributed to this was subjected to careful analysis and testing, and nothing could stop SPEEDO on the path to creating the fastest sports swimsuit.

Being the undisputed leader in the production of sports equipment for swimming, the company SPEEDO continued its tireless search for new materials and technologies, and in 1970 it developed a nylon/lycra fabric, which is still the best material for the production of swimming clothes. Getting inside the swimsuit, water and air create so-called pockets and hinder the athlete's movement. The most problematic areas in this regard are the upper chest and lumbar region of the back, where traditional swimsuits have cutouts. At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, ??SPEEDO solved this problem - a fully closed swimsuit SPEEDO made of a new super-elastic fabric S-2000 appeared. S-2000 consists of a mixture of the finest polyester and elastane, which undergo special processing. Due to this, the drag coefficient of S-2000 is 15% lower compared to traditional fabric. As a result, in Barcelona swimmers wearing SPEEDO swimsuits won 20 gold, 23 silver and 45 bronze medals, which accounted for more than half of all swimming medals. In total, S-2000 holds four world records and seven gold medals. At the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, ??swimsuits made from SPEEDO S-2000 fabric won 88 medals in swimming.

Using the sensational S-2000 technology, SPEEDO released an even more advanced suit for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta - Aquablade. The surface resistance of Aquablade when moving in water is 8% less than that of S-2000 and 23% less than that of traditional nylon/lycra fabrics. The Aquablade swimsuit collection first appeared at the Olympics in Atlanta and immediately became No. 1 in the world. Athletes equipped with SPEEDO Aquablade set three out of four world records and won 77% of all swimming medals.

A revolution in swimming - On March 16, 2000, SPEEDO introduced a new swimsuit called Fastskin. As a result of 4 years of research, a suit was created with a drag coefficient that is 7.5% lower than similar products and 3% lower than the SPEEDO Aquablade fabric.
